Beyonce and Jay-Z helped Tina Turner celebrate her 69th birthday in Newark Wednesday night.
The married superstars attended a Turner concert at the Prudential Center, sitting in a pair of aisle seats in the lower tier, near the stage.
They also visited Turner backstage, during intermission. Turner acknowledged them after the break, and said their presence was like a birthday present. She also dedicated the next portion of the show -- an unplugged segment, highlighted by a bluesy version of The Beatles' "Help!" -- to them.
Turner is on her first tour since 2000; she said at the time that she would never tour again. But the positive response to her performance with Beyonce on the Grammys awards show this February encouraged her to return to the road, she has said.
Wednesday's show included high-energy versions of virtually all her hits: "Proud Mary," "What's Love Got To Do With It," "We Don't Need Another Hero," "Private Dancer," "Nutbush City Limits" and many more. She will perform at the Prudential Center again, Thanksgiving night, and also has a show booked at Madison Square Garden on Dec. 1.
